Growing up.

Those days are gone, those days of joy,
When I was just a little boy.
Through fields I'd run, with all my friends,
We thought the day would never end.
When we were tired, we'd amble home,
And climb into bed, so snug and warm.

And then they came, our years of youth,
Our utterances, so oft uncouth.
And discovering the world of nubile girls,
Of pouting lips and tumbling curls.

So soon we thought we were in love,
This girl was sent from Heaven above.
But all to soon we turned to Mother,
This faithless girl had found another.

All too soon old-age appeared,
It came far sooner than I'd feared.
But here it is, and here to stay,
So faithful to our dying day.

But we can't complain, we had our chance.
Life led us such a merry dance,
If I had the chance, would I change a thing?.............. I don't think so.
