Both Companies' tax return are ready for submission.

Both Companies' tax returns are ready for submission.

My confusion here is each company only has one tax return and therefore, it should be 'Both Companies' tax return are ready for submission.'

Am I right?

Hi,
I think "tax returns" is correct.
Since "Tax return" is a form, each company has many of them.

Hi David,

You can check on this by turning it round and saying: 'The tax returns of both companies' and then you can see that you need the plural.
