Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Renewable resources of energy (sun, wind, water) will soon replace resources of fossil fuels (gas, oil and coal). Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer. I'm looking for your comments, thanks
Nowadays as petrol prices skyrocket, energy issues are getting much more than before. At this time, renewable resources seem to be the only way to relieve this energy crisis, and this is where controversy arises. Some people hold that renewable resources of energy will take place of fossil fuels in the near future. However, I am one of those who strongly disagree with it. From my own perspective, although renewable energy resources will replace fossil fuel in the end, there is no way this can occur in a short period of time, when technology availability and economic feasibility are taken into deliberation.
The first reason I want to put forward is that right now technology has not been sufficiently advanced to make such a huge change. For example, when people want to make use of water energy, the first problem involved is where to locate hydrogen-powered factories. Because rivers and streams only flow where nature intends them to and technology, at least in fifty years, cannot provide an effective method to pump water for a long distance, such as ten miles, water-driven factories have to be constructed near the waters. This surely renders the transportation of factories difficult and results in water pollution at the same time. Another instance is the situation where people are allured to take advantage of wind. Likewise, current technology cannot allow human beings to make use of wind efficiently. It follows that a large number of wind farms with huge wind turbine blades are established all over the world, which will kill a great number of birds, especially migratory ones.
Another reason that fossil fuels are less likely to be replaced by renewable energy in a short time is the current economy structure. As we all know, human beings have taken use of fossil fuels for generations, enormous amounts of money has been invested in building and perfecting related infrastructure, such as gas stations and mobile manufacturing companies. Changing them all immediately will undoubtedly put some corporations out of business and take a huge toll on economy. When people desire the benefits brought by renewable resources of energy, isn't it necessary for them to give some consideration to traditional automobile manufacturing companies and gas station workers?
However, although the change from fossil fuels to renewable energy will not happen soon, it will finally take place, because fossil fuels will definitely run out someday. Therefore governments around the world should promote renewable resources among the public and invest more to developing renewable resources. After several generations' preparation, the huge leap can be made.
From what has been discussed above, it can be easily concluded that even if renewable sources of energy is the final solution to energy crisis, there are still a long way to go before human beings replace fossil fuels with renewable energy. However, people should begin for this drastic change now. Only in this way can people expect a beautiful future.
