The rooks,.... they knew "it" was there, there lying in the weeds by the pond.
It had obviously injured itself and was recuperating in the shelter of the weeds on the warm damp earth surrounding the pond.

It had lain there for many days, for it's injuries were severe, but they were slowly healing.

It had survived the onslaught of the humans and had limped away to find shelter.
Now all it needed was food, for it had not eaten for many days.
This was not the first time it had managed to escape from the humans, but never before had its injuries curtailed its movements as badly as this.

It whimpered softly to itself as it licked it's wounds.
Another day and it would be able to walk again.
The deep lacerations were well on their way to being healed, and would soon only be scars, but the back legs were still very weak and would not yet bear the full weight of the large creature.

The huge wolf lay there for a further thirty-six hours before, under the cover of darkness, it hobbled back into the forest where its mate would surely bring it food.

Kitos. Anyone care to continue this story?
