Dear language lovers! The following essay contains a lot of idioms and expressions that describe how politicians communicate. For example, there is the expression 'to keep a low profile' which means 'not to draw much attention to yourself'.

In total, you will learn more than 30 expressions many of which are listed again at the end of Alan's essay Party Conferences.

I hope you have as much fun reading it as I did.

Many thanks, Torsten

it was quite funny to read about English scandals, which amount to nothing if compared to our (Italian) problems of public morale!

Another entertaining essay. I enjoyed it thoroughly. Although the important words, expressions and idioms 'explain' themselves the way they are used in the essay, it is good to have their meanings readily available at the end of the essay. This is a useful introduction.

Hello, Alan

I want to say that your essays are very interesting and I enjoy them very much in spite that there are many expressions that I can't understand. This essay is very wonderful because you help us with your glossary. Thanks for thinking in non English speakers.

Bye
