| I don't know about the others, but a martyr isn't one who necessarily suffers for a noble cause. |

Hi, Sonya, 1. a kamikaze 2. a sweetheart 3. a homestead? Yuri _________________ An interested teacher, interesting lessons, interested pupils - these are three sides of a triangle named 'teaching'. |

Martyr for 1 is very good, if you ask me. A martyr dies for a cause that he himself, at least, considers noble. Others may not consider it as noble, though. A kamikaze is a suicidal martyr. For 2, warm-hearted is probably not right, since you need a noun, not an adjective. For 3, homestead is close; but isn't a homestead rather a cluster of buildings outside a village than inside it? A village may develop around a homestead, though. |

| This is very interesting, Cerberus. In that case, how do you describe someone who is being tormented, i.e. the process of suffering is not wanted? |

| Perhaps calling someone a martyr who suffers unwillingly is not wholly impossible; but that is certainly not the prevailing sense, not the first one that comes to mind. Someone who suffers unwillingly I'd call a victim. |
