Dear All,

I make a report to tell a problem of a cooler which is low performance as below:

We are using 4 coolers for gas processing and they are almost working good but we have one of them (cooler A) indicates low performance as reduces the overall heat transfer coefficient and efficiency of the heat exchanger due to high DP across cooler and gas outlet temperature setpoint can not be reached, this has happened longtime ago.

The problems with this cooler are not clearly, it may cause of fouling or mechanism problem. But it’s very difficult to clean successfully. Chase back history, we have cleaned many times but it seem not good effectively and compare with the other one cooler B which are same function. Please be noted that, at current, gaslift demand is high, so cooler B can not handle to gaslift pressure required then cooler A must take over on that.

We make a plan to do some of tasks in next shutdown for more clarify and to see any improvement:
+ continue cleaning job:
+ carry out borescope inlet/outlet nozzle to see any obstruction or abnormal.

After that, if it’s not improvement and base on gas produced forecast, gaslift consumption, …. one option is to consider of changing out cooler after a longer period of low efficiency heat transfer and also high restriction on outlet compressor. The cost of changing out is high after checked price from vendor (10.000£/each), it's just an approximate price for your reference.

please correct my report and my mistake.

thank you very much

The high DP across (cooler A) indicates low performance and the gas outlet temperature setpoint cannot be reached. This happened once before. ( Chase back history.)

The problems with this cooler are not clear. It may be being caused by fouling, or it may be a mechanical problem, but it’s very difficult to clean the cooler successfully.
Previous attempts to improve the efficincy of this cooler have proven ineffective when viewed against the performance of cooler B. which performs the identical function.

Please note that at the present time gaslift demand is high, so whenever cooler B cannot handle the gaslift pressure required, then cooler A must take over on that.

We need to make a plan to do some of these tasks at the next shutdown for more clarification, if we desire to see an improvement:
+ continue cleaning job:
+ carry out borescope inlet/outlet nozzle to find any obstruction or abnormality.

After that, if there is no improvement, and based on gas produced forecast, gaslift consumption, …. one option is to consider changing this cooler after a shorter period of low efficiency/heat transfer, and also a high restriction being indicated on the outlet compressor.
The cost of changing is high, after having checked price from vendor (10.000£/each)

Please note that the price is only an approximate price for your reference.

Kitos.
