"Where have you been to these holidays?" Present perfect/simple past #1 (permalink) Tue Oct 06, 2009 17:10 pm   "Where have you been to these holidays?" Present perfect/simple past

Hello!
I'm Argentinian and I live in Madrid. I really love and enjoy the English language since I was a child. As a non-native, I've got plenty of doubts... why not... thousands, millions??

Here it goes one:

If someone asks you "Where have you been these holidays?" (and your holidays were in July and now it's October); do you have to answer with present perfect? Is it wrong to use the simple past?

Thank you very much for your help!!

No, it is not wrong at all. Normally, you are to use the same tense used in the question, but then you can go on with Past simple.
-Have you been to France?
-Yes, I have, I went there last summer.
Or simply:
-Where have you been?
-I went to Spain with my family.
