what's the difference between nonetheless and in spite of?

In my opinion, only noun can be used after in spite of (smth) is it right, yeah?

But what about nonetheless or nevertheless? Can I say a whole sentence after this phrase?

For example Is it correct to say? - I have to go out, nonetheless It's raining

- I have to go out, nonetheless the rain

Are both correct to say ?

Hi,

'None the less' has very much the sense of 'however'. 'Despite' and 'in spite of' would usually be followed by a noun. You would say: I have to go out despite the rain/in spite of the rain. You could also say: Despite the rain I have to go out none the less. In other words 'none the less' doesn't have a very significant meaning and usually suggests something like: although that is true/even though that is the case/I know that may be the case and so on. A similar word of course is 'nevertheless'.

'Despite' and 'in spite of' function as prepositions and 'none the less' functions as an adverb.
