Present perfect tense question

Present perfect tense for continuing situation.
We often use the present perfect tense to talk about a continuing situation. This is a state that started in the past and continues in the present (and will probably continue into the future). This is a state. (not an action)
Ex.
- I have worked here since June.
- He has been ill for 2 days.
- How long have you known Tara?

I got confused on the part where it says "This is a state, not an action.". I know that 'known' is a state but worked and ill are actions right?

'Work' is an action verb, yes ('be' and 'know' are not), but the writer is using the word differently. He is thinking about the period of work as being an ongoing condition or state that 'I' has been in; he is not speaking of active vs stative verbs.
