Hi Aikuzo,
since the subject here is the grammar structure (singular) I´d say their should be substituted by its and the verb form is sounds natural. At least to me. _________________ "Ho ho!" said the clown |

So I should base "is OR are" on whatever subject I have on the sentence? What really confusing me here is if I should base it on the word "uses" LOL w/c is plural. xD _________________ I quit studying English years ago and have just come back to study the basics. |

There are several uses of the grammar structure. They are difficult to keep in mind.-- Here the noun "uses (plural)" is the subject and grammar structure (singular) the object. The verb here refers to the uses and hence must be the plural form of to be , thus "are" _________________ "Ho ho!" said the clown |

- Yeah, a grammar structure takes time to remember. Though, I'll try to remember its uses little by little from now. :D
I learned something new again! Thank you so much Fan! :) _________________ I quit studying English years ago and have just come back to study the basics. |

| IMO, "what I really need to remember is their uses" = that which I really need to remember is their uses. So, in whatever cases, "is" refers to "that", and thereby must be "is" not "are". |

I agree. Still, in this sentence, there is no plural for "their" to refer to - but that was not your point. |

I agree with fan. Cerberus™ you meant this sentence is correct?

should we rewrite it? The question baffled me completely. It's clear that from grammatical point of view, this sentience is wrong ,isn't it guys? _________________ Global Marketing |

wow, Aikuzo´s point seems a quite tricky one. And what I was ponderring on was whether there are several opportunities of using a grammar structure since I guess there is just one commonly acknowledged structure at every language. All the others might be called tongue or whatever.
I think, James point is correct as well and likely that one that matches much better in this case. He seems having had a better eye for the subject.
Nonetheless the point here is the subject, I think. How about ".........but the uses (of the grammar structure) are what I really need to remember"? _________________ "Ho ho!" said the clown |
