Hi

I want to learn the difference between a weather forecast and a weather report. Although both of these words seem to be giving some sort of understanding for me, to be frank, the comprehensive meaning is not clear. I really need that part. I would appreciate if anyone can give me a hand on this.

Look forward to your answers.

Hi,

I think it is better to describe the two words 'forecast' and 'report'. A forecast is a view of what is likely to happen while a report is an account of what has already happened.

A weather forecast will tell what the weather is likely to be. A weather report is a factual account of what has been established to have happened.

Dear Sirs,

To me, or maybe just limited to the US, the followings are almost the same thing, as we can see and hear on TV:

forecast;
meteorological report;
weather forecast;
weather forecasting;
weather report; and
weathercast.

Regards
James

Hi,

I am sure in any variety of English there is a distinction between 'report' and 'forecast'. The fact that the two words are used indiscriminately doesn't mean there is no difference.

Hi James,

you´re not going to tell us that US TV always informs you about the weather you yourself have experienced quite recently?
