Hi everyone.

There's a problem and I need some help to understand it.

Could you help me, please?

There's such a sentence:
"Not only did I go to Paris but also I visited a lot of other places in France".

Why "did I go"?
Why it is wrong to say "Not only I went to Paris, but I also .... "?

Thank you!
Levon

"Not only" needs "did I go" to make your sentence a good English expression.

Not only can "not only" phrases form an inverted structure, but other emphasizing words or phrases can as well, including prepositional phrases. For example,
