"Future time" rule on present simple tense? #1 (permalink) Thu Oct 15, 2009 2:26 am   "Future time" rule on present simple tense?

EnglishClub only states:
the action is general
the action happens all the time, or habitually, in the past, present and future
the action is not only happening now
the statement is always true

But I saw another rule on a different book that says:
Future time
Ex. The plane arrives at 10 P.M. tonight.

Is that a legitimate rule for present tense? Also, I also say "The plane is arriving at 10 P.M tonight." with the same meaning right?

The present simple is normal for things that happen according to a fixed schedule, such as flights.

The present continuous sounds a bit odd here; perhaps it is possible in some contexts.
