hiya.
i'm here to ask about the usage of 'cheers'.

i thought it was used only in the situation like, buying something, or when you are getting some services or stuff. like, at shops, banks, or, like, when you had a help from the others. like passing salt or something like that.

and i'd never seen anyone saying it , like, i don't know how to explain this, so i will give you some examples.

you look great today!
cheers!

i didn't know your computer skill was that great.
cheers.

i hadn't heard those kind of usage above. until i saw a film called 'happy-go-lucky'.
it's a british film, which is set in london.
so i was wondering if you do use it in the situation like that? and only me! haven't heard of it?
or is it only in london? or ??

thanks in advance.

It's used in all of England and other places, Australia, etc. The examples you show don't seem to be the most common usage. I think the most common is when you leave someone's company. It would be like "good bye" or "have an nice day". Its not used in the U.S. (where I'm from) very often, except as a toast while drinking. There is a famous TV show here called "Cheers" it is titled after the name of the bar in the show.

It's also used by many Americans who live in Germany. (instead of thanks)
