Hi,

It's fascinating the way words change, isn't it? I suppose that's because language is a living thing. After all we all change, don't we? What a particular word meant in the 18th century, doesn't necessarily mean the same in the 21st century. That's probably why people get put off sometimes by some of the words used by Shakespeare and he was writing in the 16th/17th century.

Good evening Mr. Alan and all teachers
Happy New Year 2010.
Please can you help me to correct my answer; you can add something if you see I miss it to write it or to change something…..and thanks much for your help
The question:
A parent calls to tell you that, after a long talk with her son, she disapproves of the objectives you have written for health education---particularly those referring to the anatomy of the human body---but that you have taken almost verbatim from the teachers’ guide to the adopted textbook. Compose a written response to this parent that shows your understanding of where objectives come from.
My answer for this Question
The parent needs to know that the student was learning from the teacher’s guide to the
Adopted textbook. That is why the objectives are referring to the anatomy of the body.
This might seen confusing to the mother who is interested in eating a good diet and washing etc.
To stay healthy. The textbook will explain the bones and organs for example. This seems too difficult for
the student to understand and it does not help to healthy the mother thinks.

Thanks
Best regards

hi alan
What is important is that we write language may vary from one century to another, and from one generation to another Shakespeare was a great personality and use some of his words easier for us to understand the meaning in some cases thank you alan

Why the question?
What does it means now?
We have to give several examples? So I wonder how many of us surfing on web sites does know what the word"yahoo" means... Dont read the book by Jonathan Swift, else one might feel hurt.

Alan,

Like your essay, it is intersting and useful.

Wisdom: is to know what to do next.
Skill: is to know how to do it.
Virtue: is doing it.

Hi Alan,

This essay and all the essays are nice.... This is more about your essays as a whole...

though you might discuss about varied topics, it amuses me how you link them and I dont feel abruptnesss anywhere.... This coherence is not only in the functional aspects of your essays, but also in the grammatical structures..

I wanted to know how you do that ... How do you plan , start and rehearse ? ?

What point of TIMES are discussed when we say "I shall have long since" #10 (permalink) Wed Jul 21, 2010 6:29 am   What point of TIMES are discussed when we say "I shall have long since"

Hi Alan/Anyone here in the forum,

In english Essay - 26, Alan quoted this in the last passage - "By the time you read this, I shall have long since stopped writing it. "

Could someone explain me grammatically when the writing suggested in passage, is finished ?
I understand what Alan is trying to say from this, but I am not able to interpret it from the grammatical structure - " I shall have long since "

I really tank your newsletter it teachs me something new, improves my skills and also create a virtous circle where the idea springed for this could comeback as an arrow by the night with a candel in its head and a parachute in your back to say: hello my friend, today make me better, I wish you were here to cheers with some ale and smile with some tale. Have a nice day.

Hi Alan
Wish you and your family "A HAPPY CHIRSTMAS' AND HAPPY NEW YEAR"
why all are wishing nowitself I don't know, because in our side people
will clelebrate christmas in the December 25th every year. So I got
little bit confused when others wishing you. Anyway Happy Chirstmas".

You have so many words in the Essay to nice learners. The word Nice
you are always using in all the essays indirectly to attract our learners.
Virtue: " Virtue is beauty".
In other words, as we have some virtue, we learn English from you and Torsten Sir.
Stampede: In our side, we will use this word for procession. During Procession
for election, we will get stampede and Temple festival like this.

Shakespeare words are always immortal to any Centuary.
I think you never get sleep without mentioning about Shakespeare.

Thank you

Dear Alan as all your essays this one is not only extraordinary but helpful. My comment over this is that in my country we have an aspect with words that come from the unladylike vocabulary, I mean from the robbers, junkies and bad people that used these words and now have become a very normal, popular and even they sound as good as an educated or formal word. For instance the wrod CHEVERE, (cool) when you reffer to something "very good". It only was used by the previous mentioned people in the early 60s, you sounded very rude or foul-mouthed. Now any kind of people can use it without any embarrasing feeling. Another word that at this time is suffering from this transformation is PARCE (buddy) when you reffer to a very good friend, it´s becoming a normal word
but is still more used by the robbers and junkies.
Thanks a lot dear Alan for this chance tho share this issue with you.
Best regards
