hi, Alan You are totally right our head is the most important part of our body, I remember one girlfriend i had, we were head over heels in love, but I went to the US and we used to call each other until i lost my head and i came back to my country. I was really weak in the head she was already merried. Fortunately I met a beutiful woman and i have one kid. good day! |

Dear Mr.Alan! I am very thankful to you for your stimulating stories! You are totally red hot at making them or now I can say you have a good head for teaching English. Or we can use such idiom only with "figures"? I am perplexed a little bit... But I don`t quite understand the meaning of "heady argument" Is it for "solid, powerful argument"? Best wishes, Olga |

Hi Olga,
Thank you for your kind message. You are right in thinking that 'heady' suggests 'powerful'. It gives the idea of being intellectual and difficult to understand.

Mr. Alan, Please kindly lecture me a little bit about the doubling of letters when inflecting a word. eg. sit/sitting. 'start' ends in 't' just as 'sit' but the 't' in 'start' isn't doubled. Thank you. |

Hi Albert,
It's probably simplest to remember that the consonant is doubled if the vowel is pronounced as a short sound. For example you would say 'sitting' from 'sit' with the 'i' as a short sound but you would say 'siting' if you are referring to the verb 'site' meaning to place/locate a building on a particular area of land.

Hi Alan, It`s was amazing the way you've explained about the use of the nouns "head" and "tail". I really appreciate that, my friend.
Many thanks.
