Winter showed its face today,
The wind blew cold and hard.
The little children covered up,
And hurried from the yard.
The teachers ushered them inside,
To where the rooms were warm,
Not for them the wind and rain,
Inside was safe from harm.
The torpid sun then filtered through,
The flakes that fluttered down.
And gave no chance for them to lay,
Upon the frozen ground.
Late in the day the darkness came,
And with it came the night,
I hope and pray tomorrow won't
Reveal a world all white.
For although I love the Winter,
And the pleasure it will bring,
I'm sure, like most, I'd rather have,
The first warm days of Spring.
