TOEFL Topic:

When people move to another country, some of them decide to follow the customs of the new country. Others prefer to keep their own customs.Which one do you prefe?why?

Customs are defined by our own society. It is through the people that the customs get transferred from one place to another. When people move to another country, the gamut of customs increases .They can choose to keep their own customs to themselves or follow the other country's customs. In my view people should blend both and start accepting the new customs.

One reason I think people should accept new things is that there might be some of them (customs) which are to be followed sternly. If one do not follow, then he/she might loose the value in the society. For example in the Japanese culture if one wears shoes/sandals to the restaurant, then it is considered as offensive and people won't serve you. In case of the United Kingdom, visiting neighbours with out any gift is considered rude. So one has to be well versed with the customs of new country before hand.

Second reason I believe in following the new customs is the impact of influence it exerts on the people. For example if a person staying in the UK follows all the customs then he might get people's appeal.Infact this is one of the stepping stones of gaining acceptance among people. They start finding new ones in their own community. Other reason I believe in following new customs is the variety of life. New customs will add some spice to our life. Though it's not necessary to follow all the customs but at least subset of them should be followed for having multifarious life.

Finally I think that the customs play an important role in settling down in the new country. But one should not forget their own customs. People have to follow their own customs and accept the new ones as and when they come. One has to mix and match both for gaining veneration in society.

One reason I think people should accept new things is that there might be some of them (customs) which are to be STRICTLY followed. If one DOES not follow, then he/she might LOSE the value in THAT society.
For example; in the Japanese culture; if one wears shoes/sandals IN A restaurant, then it is considered as offensive and THE people WORKING THERE won't serve you.
In THE case of the United Kingdom, visiting neighbours WITHOUT any gift is considered rude. So one has to be well versed with the customs of new country before hand.

Second reason I believe in following the new customs, is the impact OR influence it exerts on the people.
For example, if a person staying in the UK follows all OF the customs, then he might GAIN people's APPROVAL. In fact this is one of the stepping stones IN gaining acceptance among people. They start finding new ones in their own community. ANOTHER reason I believe in following new customs is the variety of life. New customs will add some spice to our LIVES. Though it's not necessary to follow all OF the NEWcustoms; but at least SOME of them should be followed for having multifarious life.

Finally I think that customs play an important role in settling down in A new country. But one should not forget their own customs. People have to follow their own customs and accept the new ones as and when they come.

One has to mix and match both for gaining VARIATION in society.

My life, our lives.

You need to note the difference between loose and lose. (A regular mistake in text.)

Sandy, take a day off. You are pushing too hard, and only confounding yourself. Take it easy and watch a good film, or go for a long walk and think about your objectives.

Kitos.

In my opinion, since you suggested that people still ought to keep their own customs,
you should give at least one reason to support your context.
