TOPIC: When people move to another country, some of them decide to follow the customs of the new country. Others prefer to keep their own customs. Compare these two choices. Which one do you prefer? Support your answer with specific details.
ESSAY:
Every (person) encounter(s) a lot of new things when moving to another country for the first (time). One of them is the customs of the new country. Some people prefer keeping their own customs while others decide to follow the customs of the new country. In my opinion, I believe that we should follow the customs of the new country for (the)following three reasons.
For the first reason, I can show my respect to their country when foreign people see that I clearly understand their customs. For example, two American friends usually shake (hands) intensively when they meet in a party. So, if I (intuitively) shake (hands in making the) acquaintance of an American, he will appreciate my action. Conversely, he may partly suspect my sincerity if I only (greeted) him (with) words. So, it is important to follow the (customary greeting of) the new country.
Furthermore, (by) following the new customs (this) helps me (to) avoid misunderstanding in (my) communications. For instance, when I talk with an American, I should (look) directly into his eyes. In my country, (most) people (are unaware of) this custom but in America , (not doing) this action is (a) show of (ignorance).
Finally, I can (recognise) some new customs that are also appreciated in my own country. I once visited a relative in America. He told me some customs in this country such as bringing a small gift when going to a friends home. When I came back (to) my country, I have continued to follow this custom, because I want to show how I (regard) my friend’s family through my gifts. This custom, in fact, makes me feel more mature.
In summary, I prefer following the customs of the new country when I move (there), since I can show my respect to that country, avoid misunderstanding in communication(s) and learn more interesting customs. I believe that people should not hesitate to learn other customs of new countries in this internationalize(d) society. _________________ Keep it simple ... Keep it interesting. |
