hi,
please i want your opinions; last week we had an exam in the new field or stream :
ESP "english for specific purposes" i prepared very hard with books and documentations in order to succeed in this exam ,but i was very surprised by the question:
QUESTION:discuss the following:
"the term communicative competence was launched in the 1970s and has since been part of most language curricula. language and communication are one of the most complicated aspects of human behaviour. as all language teachers know, the ability to use a language is much more than knowing its words and grammar, and speaking in perfectly formed sentences. we should all challenge the idea of waiting until i think i am good enough in the language to use the language.rather we should use the language as a tool for communication and learning." (marsh).

can you tell me if this question is concerning ESP?
thank you

Good evening Samsam. I feel the author is implying that you should know something about the subject under discussion, and in that context the answer is YES, because you are discussing a specific subject and you should be conversant with that subject, whether it is a technical problem concerning, for example, computers, or motor cycle engines.

You must be familiar with the terminology of the subject.

Kitos.
