Essay: Important characteristics of a co-worker #1 (permalink) Mon Oct 26, 2009 16:08 pm   Essay: Important characteristics of a co-worker

Hi everybody! I'm trying to improve my writing skills as I am attending a TOEFL Test in a few days. I'll appreciate if someone have a look at my essay ;) Thanks

Topic: We all work or will work in our jobs with many different kinds of people. In your opinion, what are some important characteristics of a co-worker (someone you work closely with)?

Essay:

Nowdays we live in a really fast-paced environment. In the daily round and mainly in the modern jobs people encounter different situations and work closely with different people. To be able to cope with these situations one need specific characteristics. The three main characteristics are mutual respect, proffesionalism and flexibility.

For the first characteristic, mutual respect is essential for maintaining a strong relationship even in difficult situations. It is normal that the co-workers have different opinions and propose different solutions when working on a project. Even if you do not like your co-worker’s opinion and ideas, you have to respect them, because only this way your work can be productive and valuable for the company. Only if you respect other’s opinion are you able to expand your own way of looking at things.

Futhermore, proffesionalism is another very important characteristic, when working with a co-worker. Proffesionalism means that you are albe to leave your feelings, emotions and moods behind and be able to work with clear head. Even if you have personal problems or other difficulties you should not let those to influence your work or yout relationship with your partner. Proffesionalism means also that you do your own duties and that you are always well prepared.

Finally, flexibility is another characteristics, which is as important for working in a team as proffesionalism and mutual respect. You must be flexible to do many different tasks and also to have time to work maybe even until late in the evening, if this is necessary.

In summary, working with many different partners nowdays demads different characteristics like mutual respect, proffesionalism and flexibility. Only this way is it possible to be successful and good at what you do.
