He is a true cultivator. When he was a village school teacher, he was endowed with courage to challenge the international authorities; When he is world-renowned, he concentrates on the cropland and is indifferent to fame or wealth. He is a farmer, planting the wisdom and reaping the wealth. His whole-life dream is to help all the people in the world to be away from starvation. He is a great compatriot ---LongPing Yuan.
Longping Yuan is a Chinese agricultural scientist and an educator. He is called “the father of hybrid rice”; His hybrid rice grows all over the world at present. And his achievement makes reality that the earth is able to produce enough rice to feed tens of millions of population, especially in China, India, Pakistan and Vietnam where famine happens frequently. He is a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, foreign associate of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences which is considered as the highest honour only after the Nobel Prize in china, was just awarded 5-million-yuan(￥) State Supreme Science and Technology Prize. Besides, a company names after his name, Longping Hi-tech started business, and in return, Yuan himself earned some shares and made him millionaire one night ，but he care for nothing but only his research.
When we go back to trace his road to success, Nobody can imagine that Yuan chose agriculture as his career just because of his memory in his childhood. He, looking like a peasant, actually grew up in a big city. “When he was six years old, he visited a botanic garden. He was enchanted with the fragrant flowers and fresh fruit. That is amazing. I think I will be going to agriculture school.” Yuan recalled. At last, the snap in his memory changes Yuan’s life, and also changes the 1.3 billion Chinese people’s fate to some extent. He came up with an idea for hybrid rice in the 1960s, when a series of natural disasters and inappropriate policies had plunged China into an unprecedented famine that caused many deaths. Since then, he has devoted himself to the research and development of a better rice breed. His seed works and saved many people’s life.
Respecting and caring about the life, being indifference to the fame and the money, and being simple and humble make him a great man. And also this merits creat a model for me to follow throughout my whole life.
