TOEFL® essay: Should students be given several short vacations throughout the year

TOPIC: Some people believe that students should be given one long vacation each year. Others believe that students should have several short vacations throughout the year. Which viewpoint do you agree with? Use specific reasons and examples to support your choice.

ESSAY:
Today, some people suppose that students should be given several short vacations throughout the year. They think that with one only long vacation, students must stand a heavy stress of continuous study after that long vacation. However, others say that students should have one long vacation each year. In my opinion, I also believe that students should be given one long vacation each year because of the three following reasons.

For the first reason, the weather in one certain season is too harsh for students to study at school. For example, in Vietnam country, the winter is not too cold while the summer is so hot. If the students had studied in the summer, they would have not been able to focus on the lessons given by the teachers. It is better to get one long vacation in the summer in Vietnam. However, with the countries where the winter is too cold, they, of course, should have one long vacation in the winter.

That the students can only perform the distant journey such as visiting other countries with one long vacation is the second reason. Almost students are young and active persons and they desire a long free time to go to distant places. The short vacations can only bring them the short journeys which do not satisfy persons liking to visit abroad countries such as me and other my active classmates. Visiting remote regions, of course, brings much knowledge than visiting near ones.

Finally, the schools can be repaired and upgraded in the vacations. Repairing and upgrading schools and class is important and require a long times to perform. Of course, students should not go to school at this time. Noise and dust will disturb them. Conversely, we do not have time to repair carefully the schools with a short vacation.

In summary, students should be given one long vacation each year rather than several short vacations throughout the year since they can avoid the harsh weather and have a long times to perform a long journey. More importantly, schools can be rebuilt carefully in this long vacation.
