I) The film Last Samurai takes place in Japan in the mid-1870s
and is based on the life of Saigo Takamori, a samurai. (II) This
samurai lived during the period of transition in which the
country's ancient feudai culture, symbolized by samurai
warriors, was being rapidly replaced by western ways. (III)
Production of the film began at the 1000-year-oid Engyoji temple
in Hirneji near Tokyo. (IV) Throughout the film, the producers
tried to be true to the elegant simplicity of Japanese architecture.
(V) The rest of the film was made in New Zeaiand, where they
built a replica of a 17th century samurai village, and in Callfornia

A)l B)II C)III D)IV E)V

Which is out of the paragraph?

Sentence IV looks a bit odd to me: it probably means that the producers never recorded scenes with architectural backgrounds other than traditional Japanese; but then why doesn't it say so exactly? In addition, the link between III and V should be quite strong (III production of the film began ... V the rest of the film), but is strained by the incursion of IV.
Note also that there is a break between II and III: with III should perhaps begin a new paragraph.

This exercise is not very clear; the text is not impossible as it is, but it could be made more coherent by improving it in several ways: there is not one thing about it that is clearly wrong while the rest is right. If I were you, I'd forget about this one.

I have the same feeling as Cerberus: just forget about it. :)
