Hello,

"This" is used for one object (singular) e.g. This is a book.
"These" is used for more than one object (plural) e.g. These are my books.

To add a little to Tamta's explanation:

'This' is used to refer to a singular object, which is close or nearby.
'These' is used to refer to plural objects, which are close or nearby.

'That' is used to refer to a singular object, which is not close, or is further away.
'Those' is used to refer to plural objects, which are not close, or are further away.
