Dear All,

Can you please tell me what "capped to" means in this statement:

"Salary progression is capped to the next higher level above the salary level attached to the post"

Thank you in anticipation.

'Capping' is instituting a maximum. The highest salary attainable for the current post is the salary level of the next position above this one.

Thank you so much for your help Mister Micawber. Given your response, what preposition should follow this word? Would it be for example:

Salary progression is capped at the next higher salary level OR
Salary progression is capped to the next higher salary level?

I would expect 'at', though your sentence uses 'to'.
