Hello everybody, I’m April and I’m new in this forum. First of all I want to thank Alan, Torsten and of course Slava for giving us the possibility to learn English using this website. You started this in 2003, why have I just found you only a couple days ago? If I had joined you earlier, I would have improved my English much better. Anyway my appreciation and best regards to you guys. Bye now |

Hi, Bill, Glad to hear your voice. Just like few days before, when I saw your picture, I said, 'oh, it's dear Bill'. Now, I would like to say, 'oh, it's our dear Bill's voice'. Anyway, thank you for your help always. Of course, gratitude belongs to all of you, Alan, Torsten, and other teachers and friends. You are really nice helping others all the time. I will have several busy days ahead. Then, call it a day. Bye. Andy _________________ It will sure be a lot of fun here to make friends with you guys. |

Hi guys, Nice to meet you in such a good company, all alive and kicking. At last I have an opportunity to be on-line with my voice recording. I find this idea of Torsten and the team very useful and interesting. We have an opportunity to listen to so many people with their different accent and pronounciation, we can compare American and British variants of English, we may share our experiences, we may express our feelings and emotions and so on and so on and so forth. Thank you for your help in learning English,
Best wishes,

Good afternoon Alan,
The recording thread appears to becoming ever more popular, but it is a little disappointing to note that less than 5% of the viewers are taking advantage of this totally unique, and free facility.
Todays headsets, with inbuilt microphones, are so very cheap, and owning one means that everyone can have the opportunity to practice their speaking skills.
So come on viewers. Buy a headset for Xmas, for I'm certain that we will all have many things to say to one another over the Festive Season. _________________ Keep it simple ... Keep it interesting. |

Good afternoon, Alan. Thanks for your answer to my message. Well, I live in Belgium. Yepp… I can imagine your reaction now; the country of the first president of the European Union ( ) I started learning English at the secondary school, so it has been already for many years because I’m not that young any more. I like learning English to get in touch with other people for example on holiday. I try to keep up my English by reading books or watching films but thanks to the internet and people like you, Alan, we can now do it interactive. So that was my first introduction.

Hi April,
It's nice that you have found the forum now. I live in Belgium too. I also started learning English at secundairy school. I study to become an English teacher now. It's nice to meet someone of my own country on this forum. So do you live in Flanders, like I do, or do you live in Walloon (I hope Walloon is correct English)? Isn't it nice that our Prime Minister is now the President of Europe? :D I am so happy about that. |

Hello Elvis,
Nice to meet you too. Yes I live in Flanders, in Antwerp exactly. It's great that Van Rompuy becomes the first president of The European Union. I hope he can prove himself for this job. Tell me more about your study next time, okay? Talk to you again soon. Bye now

Good morning (or should I say good night? ) Andy!
What I meant with "get off my coffee high" was that I should calm down from the caffeine again. Coffee gets my heart pumping and I get all bouncy and talkative, hehe. Since caffeine works like a mild stimulant, it can be referred to as a "high", like when speaking about a drug.

Hi everyone!
Claudia here.
Today I got up, turned on my computer, and started to work when suddenly my computer turned off! I looked to see what was going on and found out that there was a power outage in the whole neighborhood! It is very stormy where I live right now. The winds are blowing hard since last night, and I assume that one of the electrical masts had been blown over, which caused the outage. I was worried that I'd have to throw all my food away. I buy lots of frozen veggies because I live in the boondocks and can't store fresh stuff. Thank goodness, though, the power went back on after about an hour, so I don't think it ruined the food.

Hi Bill,
Always good to hear from you and sorry to hear about what happened to the dog. My question is really directed to Claudia. Claudia, you have used the expression 'boondocks' once or twice and although I have got the sense of it, I don't really know what it means. I need enlightenment.
