Dear Tom and Alan,
Thank you very much for your messages. I really appreciate that. Actually, I was very pleased to hear such nice compliments and I always try to do my best.
Alan, I am glad to hear that you have been to Lithuania. Well, I was born in Alytus ( a small city in south of Lithuania). It is beautiful place surrounded by forests. There are four major regions of my country – Aukštaitija, Dzūkija, Suvalkija and Žemaitija. I live in Dzūkija. There are amazing places to visit in Lithuania. I would like to know what have you seen as I understood in Vilnius? Please correct me if I am wrong. I am going to tell you, friends, some places which you have to visit if you are visiting Lithuania. First of all, I think you should visit Anykščiai which is famous for the impressive pine woods, the narrow gauge railway, and the Horse Museum. Tourists visit the Puntukas Stone which is largest one left by the receding glacier. Also, the Hill of Crosses nor far away from Šiauliai has become the symbol of the nation’s belief and hope. What is more, the centre of Europe is 26 km away from the capital Vilnius. It was established in 1989. There are many other wonderful places where you can go as well:-)
My holidays were amazing in England. I was visiting my godmother who lived in Manchester (she lives near Birmingham now). I went to many interesting and beautiful places. I was impressed about York’s cathedral and Hull’s the Deep Aquarium. And, of course, London is amazing. There are so many places that we did not get a chance to visit them all because we were only one day there. London, Hull, Manchester and York are cities where I have been.
Thanks again Tom and Alan for your messages and I am looking forward to hearing from you!

Hi dear friends,
First of all, I would like to introduce myself.I am Ranjan from orissa , a state in india. For the first time I touched this beautiful mother earth on 12th july 1985.since I was in standard 4 I have been learning english but feel not good enough in this field. But have a great desire to enhance my english. My fathere used to give some english text to speak out in debate competition but I never did that even for a single time. Year by year I did complete my schooling and then 10+2 and then did complete my engineering career as well. And from God's grace I got a job in a MNC and working currently in that.I love my country and its culture. I am new to this website and listened all the voice messages and feel really great.I hope I can rectify my fault and will learn good english from you people. From this voice messages I found some of the guys pronounciation and style of speaking is quite impressive like alan ,tom ,torsten, claudia and others too. I really enjoy english language and love it very much .I do read english news paper and watch BBC news channel.
Anyway I have spoken much .This is my first voice message and looking forward to what is wrong.
regards, Ranjan. |

Hi Ranjan,
Thank you for your message and welcome to this section of the forum. It would be interesting to hear something about the work that you do. It's people like you that help keep this part of the forum going and you need have no fear about your English, which can easily be understood. There was only one problem and that was the quality of the recording but that is just a technical matter. Look forward to hearing from you again.

Hi Greta,
We are all bowled over with your fluency in English. Either you have excellent teachers or you are an exceptional student. It's probably the latter although I am sure you have very good teachers. Perhaps you could tell us something about the methods used in your school for teaching English. After all we are in the teaching business and are always ready to learn.

Hello my friends, especially my dear Tom Kane This is Moresa from Iran. I was born in 1985, and recently I've finished my study at university. I've gotten bachelor degree in Engineering of Electricity and Telecommunications. Newly I have started learning English and I know that it is so late, but I have to burn the midnight oil for passing the TOEFL test. I'm planning to continue my studying in the USA, so I'm learning English with American accent. I love Tom's accent and I was wondering if he'd mind helping me and correcting my mistakes. I've found this website really helpful and everyday I spend some hours with. I'm very happy of being here and I'll record much more. I love all of you

Hi Alan,
Thanks you for your quick reply. Basically I am working in symphony services ( in UNIX operating system and oracle database) as a software engineer and it is been 2 and half years.I generally give support to 20 or 30 of my clients(some are banks like federal bank of new york) most of are in USA and sometimes develop the code for the new projects.I am generally getting issues which are being solved by the technologies by writing some codes which I have mentioned above.Generally I work from Monday to Friday ( 9 hours a day) .sometimes I do stretch 3 or 4 hours more.I do interact with my USA clients which was a big problem(due to accent variation) for me at the beginning but day by day I got quite familiar with that. All I said are the work at office.By the way I like friendship with all over the world people. Now a days I can talk with my friends fluently in English but the problem is when I am given any topic to speak, at that time the sentence I form are very poor .I like to speak some English which should be impressive. I like the phrase you used in your sentence Alan "neck of wood".I saw this one first time in my life and by the help of dictionary I came to know that its meaning is nearby region.I got excited when I found this type of dandy things.
Frankly speaking this site will definitely help me out to reach my goal.
thanks to all, Ranjan |

Hi, everyone, The biggest news in China these days is and will be Obama's visit to China. The president of the United States of America, Obama, visited Shanghai yesterday. He has gavin a speech in Fudan University and answered several questions to Chinese students. Later in the evening, Obama flied to Beijing. And today, he visited the Forbidden City, which was used to be the emperor's palace. Also, our president Hu held a special rite to welcome president Obama and had an important meeting with him. They had a great discussion to enhance the two great nations' communication and cooperation in different fields.
Greta, you have a very beautiful accent. I thought once whether you are a native speaker. Anyway, I really hope to improve my oral English like you already do. Any suggestion, please let me know.

Hello Alan,
Thank you for your kind thought of me. I am very happy of that. Well, my teachers surely are very good. My teacher at school teaches, I think, in a very good way. First of all, every lesson is different. One day we listen a lot, next day we do grammar exercises, another we get topic of conversation and start talking. To conclude, we have opportunities for learning in separate subjects. Of course, we do our homework too. I am very interested in English so I have extra lessons where I practice myself by doing various tests. Also, I think a good student has to try to do something on his own. There are many ways how to do it, for example, this website. It’s fantastic place to communicate and improve language skills;-)
Best regards, Greta |

Hey Andy,
I am glad to hear that you liked my accent. Personally, I do not think it is good. Sometimes my pronouncing is wrong but I am working on it:-)
I think you are doing great too. How long have you been learning English? Well, I do not know if this suggestion helps to you, but sometimes I read book (in English of course) aloud. I guess this helps a bit for pronouncing. Also I watch films in English regularly. This helps to my vocabulary. In my opinion, the biggest helper for us is WISH. If we really want something, we will do it;-)
I am looking forward to hearing from you!

Hello Moresa,
Thank you for your kind words. I appreciate it a great deal. Sorry it's taken me a little longer to get back to you here on the forum. I've had a crazy day, one of those days that you'd like to forget - if you know what I mean?
I'm not too sure how I can help you, because I think you are doing quite well with your English skills. You really don't have any mistakes that I can hear.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Thanks again, Moresa.

Hello Tom Many thanks to you because of your complements, kindness and attention. I wish everything is good with you right now and you'd forget your all upsets anon. I've started to learn English since about 8 months ago and I study English daily right now. It is a dream for me to speak English as vivid as you. Unfortunately I don't have access to any good English teacher in my small city. In fact you are a very precious man for me, because your advices will be so helpful for me. I like to be criticized, especially by a native American. I'm very glad to meet you here
Thank you again, Tom
