Hi everyone,
wow, there's been a lot going on on this thread in my (short) absence! Welcome Greta and Ranjan to the thread. It's nice to see so many people joining in!
I was a bit busy yesterday because I went grocery shopping. I live too far away from any store to be able to shop daily, so I have to buy ahead, which means going from one grocery store to the next, buying everything I will need for the next few weeks, until the trunk and the back seats of the car are too full, and I'm too exhausted to buy more.
It was tough resisting all the Christmas sweets like fruitcake, gingerbread, and chocolate stuff. :sigh:
Until soon and keep posting!

Hi, Greta, Totally, it has been ten years since the first time I started to learn English in middle school. Middle school, three years; high school, another three years; and till now four years in college. However, I haven't done much practice in speaking. I used to focus on my major study. It's mathematics. To learn the advanced mathematics in another language is really difficult for me. I think to teach math in English may be also not an easy way for the professors. Here I mean English is not our native language. Professors usually give lectures in Chinese Though some materials are written in English, we can understand them, but we choose to discuss them in Chinese.
I like English, especially when I began to prepare for some English tests, which are needed in the application to postgraduate programs. I will try to be here, to improve my English skills. It's really good to talk with you all.

Hi,
I don't know whether politics does anything for you. Personally as a subject it doesn't grab me very much. I can take it or leave it. What really interests me is the way politicians use the language and in particular the words they use to try to sweet talk us into believing what they're saying. There's an animal that's what you might call wild and fierce and long that has reddish brown fur and it's this little creature that we use when we talk about words that are deliberately unclear - like the words politicians use when they don't really want to commit themselves one way or the other. We call these weasel words.
So what's your view on politics?

Hi Alan , The things you have told about politicians are true. But politics has more impact on many individuals.Without
politics it is very difficult to handle a big organization .Some politician like Barak Obama,Hitler and many.....
,they have commanding and dominating voice by which anybody can be influenced and could better save
their country from danger. The only things is the matter of good politicians who can drive the nation with
good, friendly toughts and completely against of the terror and many curroptions and must take steps to
eradicate those odds.
speak to you soon, Ranjan |

Hi Everybody...
Have you ever just had one of those days where nothing seems to go right? Well, that was my day yesterday.
I woke up to find that I had a flat tire on my Jeep. No problem, I thought, I was planning on buying a new set of tires anyway before the winter begins. Once I arrived at the store, they informed me that they no longer sell the tires I wanted. Great! My second choice of tires were, of course, not in stock, and I just missed a sale on that brand by one day. Figures!
Don't worry about it I thought. I had a busy day planned for recording the FREE "listening exercises" for english-test.net. After spending hours behind the microphone, I found out that I made an error with how I positioned my settings. No big deal I thought. A couple of adjustments, a little fine-tuning and everything will be fine. WRONG! Everything has to be recorded all over again. Not good!
Well, I feel better now that I've had a chance to vent. Here's hoping all of you have a better day today, than I did yesterday.

Hello Moresa,
Thanks so much for your kindness. I almost find it hard to believe that you only started to learn English 8 months ago. Where did you learn to speak and write so well?
So tell me how are things with you? I hope you are out of the way of the fighting! Are you currently working as an electrical engineer?
I look forward to hearing from you. Write back when you have the time.

Good mourning, I've just woken up and listened tv show about Leonardo Da Vinci. In order to improve my english this week I'm watching the history channel every mourning. Fortunately, I begin to practice my listening skills again while listening english shows. In fact when I hear some interesting words or which i don't know i write them in my notebook and stick them to the door. |

Hi Boris,
Thanks for your message. It's certainly a good idea to make notes about new words that you come across. I like the idea of sticking these new words on the door. Just one point that I have to mention and that is the spelling of 'morning', which has no 'u' in it when you refer to the first part of the day 'Mourning' with a 'u' (which sounds the same) has quite a different meaning and is used to describe the sadness you show/feel at the death of someone.
Keep up the good work.
