Difference between 'explaining something' and 'handing out instructions' #1 (permalink) Wed Nov 04, 2009 8:10 am   Difference between 'explaining something' and 'handing out instructions'

Hello,

as I'm currently working on TOIEC preparations I wonder what's the difference between

"The man is explaining something to his collegue" and
"The man is handing out instructions"

On the picture there is a scene in the office; a women is sitting in front of a pc and a man is standing behind her and talking, he has a piece of paper in his hand, but he does not had it out to the women...

Thanks for your help im Advance,
Anette

Then he is explaining something. 'Hand out' also implies that there are several recipients, not just one.
