[quote="Tomasito"]Hello my friends! Yesterday I wrote a new essay. It talks about hunger in the world. I think the title is not the best for the text. Anyway let's read it.

An ignorance called Hunger
Every day nearly twenty five thousand children die because of hunger or hunger related causes, according to the United Nations. This means that a child dies every three seconds!
The statistics also say that in the last two decades the percentage of people suffering from hunger has increased drastically. The main cause of hunger is poverty. It suggests that to eliminate hunger in the world we first have to eradicate poverty.
Children in Africa, Latin America and Asia are the most affected by the consequences of this evil. Malnutrition is killing many children around the world, and yet it seems that no-one is thinking about it. In contrast, the quantity of food available in the world today can feed double the world population.
The question is, why is hunger allowed to exist in our world? The problem is that the most powerful nations in the world such as United the States, England and China are wasting huge amounts of money investing in new weapons and their own security, when this money could be used to build new companies in poor nations. I do believe that to eradicate poverty people must work. We don’t want to see children and old people dying in Afghanistan or Iraq any-more. We want to see a world without war or poverty.
In my country the Non Government Organizations (NGO’s) have launched an interesting initiative. This initiative exists in many other countries along Africa. The NGO's provide food for schools, which means that at the end of their lessons the children each receive a plate of food. With this action the NGO's hope to attract more children to school for the simple reason that with education they can eradicate poverty. At the same time they are diminishing hunger.
What we can do to help the poor people, and relieve hunger in the world, is to support the organizations which deal with these issues, or if we live in a poor country like myself, we can help them with new ideas. I think that every-one can do something to reduce hunger and poverty in the world. Let’s put our hands and minds to work.
Tomasito.
A great essay Tom, and a very apt title. _________________ If you need me, I'm here. |

It's a wonderful essay concerning about the global poverty.
China used to be in a deep dilemma with such a huge territory and also so many people. Before the great invention--hybrid rice, China needs to import one share of Grain out of total three. A lot of Chinese people had to struggle in starvation decades ago. There was even a voice from international scientists: how can China feed its people of such a huge number? However, intelligent Chinese have basically conquered the very problem mainly due to the new grain-producing technology--planting hybrid rice. But the situation of poverty still worries China's people, since a few people, about 20%, with privilege and priority own almost 80% sources and capital. It is usually called rich-poor gap issue, which exists in every nation and every period. It's really a tough problem.
Anyway, I am glad to see the significant development of NGO in China. Once, I was invited to attend a conference which is hold to encourage students in colleges to participate in NGO's education aid projects as volunteers. Nowadays, almost every university in China has at least one NGO or one students' association working on the welfare of the poor or the youth. I have also been through several such kind activities. If what I have done can be of even a little help to people who need help, I will be full of gratulation. What's more, I think the global cooperation between nations is very important. Without mutual trust, communication and cooperation, it's hard to image the problems such as poverty, global warming, pollution and nuclear weapon control and disarmament can be solved perfectly by several countries' endeavor.
Allow me to quote a famous statement from a great Chinese leader Sun Yat-sen to finish my argument: Revolution has not yet prevailed. Comrades, keep up the good work. _________________ It will sure be a lot of fun here to make friends with you guys. |

Hello Naiverock! Thank you to read my essay and your compliments too. China is of course a country full of dilemas. I believe in the current government. They are doing a good job. The results is what we see: their economy is growing faster than ever. They are becoming a powerfull nation. Thanks for sharing your overview about China. _________________ I am the product of my education and experience. |
