Translation of "die tausendjährige Stadt Nordhausen"?

Hi, how would you translate the phrase "die tausendjährige Stadt Nordhausen"?

What about this: Nordhausen, a city which is one thousand years old....

Or would you use the adjective millennial? ('the millennial town Nordhausen')? Sounds strange and very German to me.

Hello Torsten,

sometimes it is impossible to translate a sentence 1:1. If something sounds strange to oneself (even if it is technically correct), it is usually best to go about it from a different angle. How about, "Nordhausen, a town for a thousand years, . . ." or "Nordhausen, a thousand-year-old town, . . ."?
