You use it in a sentence when you want to refer to a word or thing that you have forgotten: since you have forgotten the word, you cannot use it, so you say an arbitrary sound instead to refer to it. It's similar to "whats-his-name". http://www.thefreedictionary.com/doohickey |

Just the quick note; I would like to download the example that is read out & recorded in mp3 format or in any other audio formats. Actually, this one read out by a person whose native language is Am English.....from " I was rooting willy-nilly through a buncha stuff .........diddly darned whaddyacallit is!" upto here. Thanks.
