"see" transitive or intransitive? #1 (permalink) Sun Nov 08, 2009 16:11 pm   "see" transitive or intransitive?

"I saw in the New Year with some friends from university."

Is "see"a transitive or intransitive verb here in this sentence?
There is NO object in this sentence, so I assume that this is a transitive.
In that case, what does "see" here mean?
Without object, the whole sentense doesn't make sense to me.

Anyone who can paraphrase this sentence with easier way for me?

"To see in" is a phrasal verb that means "to welcome, to celebrate" in this context, and as such has an object: New Year.

"see in" is a phrasal verb!! That's good to know.
I took "in New Year" as an adverb phrase indicating time
so I did not see any object.
Thank you, it helped a lot!
I am wondering how come my dictionary doesn't have
that phrasal verb, which is so bad. Crying or Very sad

Your dictionary is not in bad company: the OED doesn't have it either.
