Hi Torsten,
I would simply change it to: The town of Nordhausen ....

Hi Alan, many thanks for this. Any suggestions for the second part below?
You will encounter historically valuable places throughout the whole town. There are unique churches such as the cathedral “To the Holy Cross” and the “Blasii Church” both of which give the town such a personal touch and make for a a wonderful experience. The cathedral was designed by the “Damenstift”, one of Queen Mathilde's foundations. _________________ Test Of English for International Communication TOEIC Preparation & TOEIC Vocabulary |

Hi Torsten,
This is probably going to sound a bit nit-picky but then since you ask, I would say: 'You will come across ...'
A comma after “Blasii Church”. Then I would say: 'give the town its personal touch'.

Hi Alan,
What do you make of the next part:
Sights of special interest are the Romanic crypts from the 12th century and the hand carved choir stalls from the 15th century as well as the founder figures at the church choirs. Not far away in the town centre you will find the Blasii Church with its impressive skew tower. The renaissance pulpit from 1592 is very impressive too. In addition, the Gothic church contains the painting “Ascend of Lazarus” by Lucas Cranach, 1558. _________________ Test Of English for International Communication TOEIC Preparation & TOEIC Vocabulary |

Hi Torsten,
Sights of special interest are the Romanic (ROMAN) crypts from the 12th century and the hand carved choir stalls from the 15th century as well as the founder figures OF? the church choirs. Not far away in the town centre you will find the Blasii Church with its impressive skew (SKEWED/LOPSIDED) tower. The renaissance pulpit from 1592 is very impressive, too. In addition, the Gothic church HOUSES the painting “THE RAISING of Lazarus” by Lucas Cranach, 1558.
Just a thought.

Hi Alan,
What about the next paragraph:
Around these churches there is the old town with its cafes, shops and galleries. They invite you to go shopping, stroll through the town and enjoy.
The new town hall square is close by and across on the Petersberg (Saint Peters hill). That's the place where you can find the sunny terraces where you have a beautiful view on the city.
The city became famous because of the “Nordhäuser Doppelkorn” (special German schnaps). It has been made for centuries. The tradition has been passed on by several generations and you can trace its history throughout the town. The traditions live on with the famous Nordhäuser distillery.
Kunsthaus (House of art)
The historical mansion, built in 1907 has an observation tower and a big shrub garden. It's the headquarters of the “Ilsetraut Glock-Grabe- Kunststiftung” and the civic art collection.
The exhibition which includes original hand signed paintings provides you with an overview of the art creations of the 19th and 20th century in Europe. They show you works of different technologies and genres of important contemporary artists such as Barlach, Warhol, Slevogt, Max Ernst, Miro and Immendorf. _________________ Test Of English for International Communication TOEIC Preparation & TOEIC Vocabulary |

Hi Torsten,
My suggestions:
Around these churches LIES the old town with its cafes, shops and galleries. They invite you to go shopping, stroll through the town and enjoy YOURSELF.
The new town hall square is close by and OVER THERE IS the Petersberg (Saint Peters hill). That's the place where you can find the sunny terraces FROM WHICH you CAN GET a beautiful view OF the city.
The city became famous because of the “Nordhäuser Doppelkorn” (special German schnaps). It has been made for centuries. The tradition has been HANDED DOWN by several generations and you can trace its history throughout the town. The traditions live on with the famous Nordhäuser distillery.
Kunsthaus (House of art) (ART MUSEUM/GALLERY)
THIS historical mansion, built in 1907 has an observation tower and a big shrub garden. It's the headquarters of the “Ilsetraut Glock-Grabe- Kunststiftung” and the civic art collection.

I think this works best..........
The 1000 year old town of Nordhausen which has about 44000 inhabitants, is the Thuringian gateway to the Harz mountains. It's the new downtown area, plus the marvellous surroundings, as well as the great variety of leisure time facilities, along with a diverse culture and art scene, that make this town so attractive. |
