Good morning Sanguan, you are not too old to learn English to more than an acceptable level. You have already shown your ability to learn by teaching yourself what you already know.
You certainly have every incentive to learn more. At 44 you still have more than enough time to strive for a better life simply by mastering English.
Your first steps should be to master Personal Pronouns and Basic sentence structure.
These rules have been posted many times here on the Forum. In addition you will find every assistance that you should need on the Forum home page.

Good afternoon Torsten, I am Mr. Sanguan from Thailand. Mr. Torsten you are very kind to me for trying to understand my life.
Nowadays I have many have problems in my life, but I have found that all of your questions have been very good for me.
No-one has ever taught me. I have taught myself English from the TV and newspapers. I have never learned English from a language Institute.
My family and I are very poor. My mum and dad both died when I was fourteen years old, and then I had to leave my village to work in another city. I've had so many problems in my life from the day I was born. I succeeded in elementary education, and then I had to study by an adult student distant learning system .
I was successful at SUKHOTHAI THAMMATHIRAT open university, but it took ten years for me to obtain my Bachelors degree, because I had to work at the same time. I don't know how to say many English words, I only know that I am have been interested in the English language since I was a youngster.
But now I am 44 years old and I feel that I have not been very successful in learning English.
Next time I will try to send my voice recording to you. Thank you very much for your helping me.

Hello Sanguan,
Here in Kerala, which is one of the Indian states I belong to, there was a well known thinker and scientist. He was known as Kotoor. Even at the age of his 90s he was very active in all his activities. One day one journalist came to interview him and asked many questions. One of the questions was that what was his ambition then in his life. He replied without any delay or hesitation, " My ambition is to be a good student". Now you think about yourself. 44 is too old to learn?
Love you have nice day. |

Yes! Learning English is very useful for all age groups as learning never has limits in terms of age. In fact, a person is always learning something during the course of one’s life, although not in an organized way. Learning English language can boost the confidence level of aged people as well as teenagers, because it is a language that is commonly used all over the world. The benefits of learning English for the aged people and youth include: * One can always easily interact with each other in English if the native language is different * Learning English is fun when it is done with the people of same age * It is convenient for the travelers to know about a place they visit as they can converse in English |

| hi dear Sanguan. don't think like that there are no age limit for learn anything. i am just saying don't loose your confidence. nothing is impossible. i will not give you some general suggestion because you have used before like . read newspaper etc...... but one thing i am telling do practice more. everyone has some goal but without hard work and practice we can't achieve our goal. just try to speak in English .if you have hesitation problem so you need to remove that. be confident i hope you will learn English . so all the best........... |
