Can art express something about the country? #1 (permalink) Tue Nov 10, 2009 15:57 pm   Can art express something about the country?

Mostly, advertisements are just 15 seconds, during which the advertiser has to express their ideas and advocate the product. For me, it could be called contemporary art and due to the different culture backgrounds, advertising contains more information apart from the product itself.

The contests of advertisement advocating the same products vary from country to country. Through different contests, audience could grasp some ideas that under what kind of circumstance would the viewer like the product and purchase it. For example, most advertisement would have a story in China, sometimes about daily life and others may about romance. While the advertisements that I saw in United States are much more direct comparing with China's. They just simply described the product and introduced the benefit after using or eating it, which is a sort of unacceptable to me. And for me, as a Chinese, have not any impulsiveness to purchase the product after watching this kind of advertisement that even looks a little bit silly to me.

Those advertising on live can also indicate the products that people concern these days. Numerous information, such as what kind of products attract inhabitants more, what is commonly needed among the natives and what is one of the most popular products in the country, can also be obtained through watching advertisement. This still has many differences among different countries. Koreans may attracted by the newly invented cheap watermelon, while Chinese are more interested in the profitable stock market software. French may focus on the fashion cloth, on the other hand, Germany may pay more attention to the newest precise machine. These kind of information about different countries can all be inferred from the advertisement playing on TV.

To sum up, what the advertising tells is not limited to the product itself. There are quantities of information contained in it which varies from country to country.
