The most important animal in my country. #1 (permalink) Thu Nov 12, 2009 10:12 am   The most important animal in my country.

In my opinion, the most important animal in my country is dragon. According to the Chinese culture, dragon is the icon of power, luck, and happiness, which is so different compared with western culture. It is one typical and meaningful part of 5000-year Chinese culture.

In ancient Chinese document, dragon is painted as dear’s head, snake’s body, eagle’s wing and crocodile’s feet. Some scientists believe that dragon is imaginary creature, which is unreal. However, there are still evidence of dragon’s existing in old Chinese’s books, in which dragon is described as scary and dangerous animal. After many years’ research, some people believe that dragon is the combination of crocodile and fairy tales. And I am in favor of this theory.

We, Chinese, are called the decent of dragon, and in part of our culture, we are proud of being that. It encourages us to be unite, harmony, and care about people around us. The ancient emperors of China are defined as the son of dragon, and only they could wear clothes painted with dragon. This indicate their great, undeniable and irreplaceable power, which used to be glory and unimaginable to the general Chinese people. However, this concept is completely changed these days, and dragon is not that unreachable thing any more. We have the right to wear clothes with dragon, hang the picture of dragon and even call ourselves the son of dragon. All of that indicate we have the equal power and rights as any other people. Dragon is not a taboo to the general Chinese any more.

You may see a lot sculptures, paintings or any other forms of decoration about dragon in Chinese people’s home. In our mind, it is not just a simple collection, but also the wish of wealthy, healthy and happiness. We believe that dragon can bring us good luck and make our wish come true.

To sum up, dragon is the most important animal in my country, although it does not exist as we imagined. It represents ancient Chinese culture and our best wishes about lives.

An excellent essay Annie, spoiled only be silly basic mistakes. Read it through once or twice and familiarise yourself with the English forms. A great essay though!
