How to memorize new vocabulary Sat Oct 15, 2005 15:03 pm  How to memorize new vocabulary

Hello vocabulay queen! You say that you can't memorize new vocabulary at all, yet you seem to be able to make coherent sentences in English. How is that possible Smile ? How did you learn your mother tongue and how did you manage to learn at least some words in phrases in English? If you want to learn more English vocabulary you can do a lot of things such as watch a movie in English. Have you ever tried this?

IS THERE AN EASY WAY? Fri Oct 28, 2005 17:37 pm  IS THERE AN EASY WAY?

I get stuck a lot when I try to memorize vocab words, too. And at this time, I guess I'm just not going to worry too much about it.
I read, and if I come aross an unfamiliar word, I look it up in the dictionary. That's about it.

There are some ways... Wed Apr 19, 2006 4:23 am  There are some ways...

...and having fun is a good one!!! Very Happy

1. Draw 3 columns on a sheet of paper.
2. Draw a picture of a new word at the top of the first column.
3. Write the first letter of the word in the second column.
4. Write the word in the third column.
5. Continue with other new words you want to remember.
6. Test yourself. Cover the second and third column. Can you remember the word from the picture in the first column? Yes? Go on to the next picture. No? Look at the first letter in the second column. Can you remember now? Yes? Check the answer in the third column and go onto the next word. No? Check the answer in the third column and test yourself again later.

New vocabulary: is there an easy way? Wed Apr 19, 2006 21:26 pm  New vocabulary: is there an easy way?

Hi Tatiana

I like your pictures+3 columns idea. Very Happy

Hi Queen
I also like using pictures with vocabulary. In addition, I usually tell my students, that until a word has come out of their own mouth, it probably won't be learned. Wink Silently studying a list of vocabulary is probably the least effective way to learn.

I think it's best to learn new words in a context... a sentence, a phrase, a song, a joke, a picture, etc...
