Good morning, or whatever time it is in your country. Today I would like to tell you about my grand-parents, both of whom I loved very much.
My grandmother was such a wonderful woman. Although she had received very little schooling, she was able to fabricate fascinating stories that she would tell me whilst sitting on my little bed. In fact, going to bed was the highlight of my day.
Each day she would concoct yet another new story for my entertainment. Strangely I cannot recall a single one of her stories today, but I'm certain she planted a seed in my limited ability to do something similar.
My grandfather too,(A lifelong mariner) would tell me stories about his epic travels at sea. Probably there was a great deal of exaggeration in most of his tales, but they were always thrilling. He was a wonderful man.
In her later life my grandmother would take a chair and sit in the street below her front window, (Many of the women those days would do similar) and she would tell my friends some of the stories that she had told me at bedtime.
Today I still wonder how a woman of such limited education was able to conjure up such wonderful stories. She was definitely a word-smith, and I wonder if in fact, the tales that I weave, are actually being woven by her, for I am sure she is by my side in whatever I write.
Incidentally, the story that I posted some weeks ago, "The Captain," was loosely composed around these two persons who were so very important in my upbringing and in the forming of my character.
Thanks for reading.
