Just how addicted are you really?

I have friends who admit that the first thing that they do in the morning is turn on the computer whilst coffee is brewing. They attend to their families needs, but whatever they hadn't concluded last night on their favourite sight is the thing uppermost in their minds.

Are we really becoming a world-wide group of junkies?

Having other interests that do not involve using the computer is probably the healthier way to go.

The devising of games has seen many people spending countless hours sitting before the monitor, or rattling away on the keyboard.
People becoming engrossed in on-line poker games or operating non-existent cafes and farms.

Undeniably e-mails are a Godsend, as is the obtaining important information very quickly, but just what do you feel are the evils of the internet?

Is it destroying family relationships, and are anonymous friendships becoming more important than your real-life associations?

Where will it all end?

Kitos.

I can't agree with you more. Computers and the Internet were supposed to make us more efficient and productive. But we seem to be enslaved by them today. I put the blame on addictive online games. Nothing beats face-to-face communication and relationships. Online farming? No thanks. I would rather have real dirt on my hands :)

Good evening Kitosdad and Peterkua

Thanks Bill for bringing up this vitally important issue.
Rhetorical questions??? :)
I really don't know how addicted I am. May be I'm not, in compare with some people.
As far as I know you spend a lot of time just in this website. :D
You have made a lot of young friends here and they love you.
How could we have sought help and how could you have helped us In the absence of the internet?
How could we have found great (places) websites (like this one) to get information, learn English and something new?
How can people communicate with each other in the distance without the internet?

pleased to meet you Peter Kua.

Good evening Richard, I do indeed spend an awful amount of time on the Forum, but I make sure that I also spend an equal time away from it.

Being retired gives me far more free time than most folk, and I am happy that I have become conversant in computer practicalities and keyboard operation.

It will serve me well when I become too old or disinterested with outdoor life. I do hope that day is a long way off though.

As you say, I have made many friends here in this Forum, and I'm happy that an old guy like me can call you young guys and girls my friends.

I'm so very proud of you all, for you all strive for a better life and future. I wish you all every success and I keep you all in my memory.

Kitos.

To be candid, I am pretty much addicted to the Internet.

The fact that I turn on my computer right after I wake up is considered as obsessive compulsive disorder for my siblings. What my siblings do not know is the fact that the Internet is a much better haven for me. It has really changed my mindset to the better. Although my social skills are not as good as in days gone by, I still believe that this addiction has not contributed to a severe case of aloofness.

That was my artless candour.

Good Evening!
I used to spend much more time chatting with my friend 2 years ago. Nowdays I use the Internet for learning or gathering any kind of informatin, shopping and for e-mailing. I've never been addicted to the Internet, but my brother is addicted to it :) I think everthing what he thinks about is secured in his PC, and the sentence " I love my PC , because my friends live in it' is true for him :) It's some kind of illness I think , but it's funny :) I find it funny to observe my mother when she observes him while he's chatting or posting something, when he smiles looking at the desktop of PC or when he has very strict expression of face :) She thinks that the PC is Satan's evil :D

I am so addicted to the Internet and I do admit that whenever I wake up in the morning after doing my breakfast ,the first thing I do is turning on the computer, check my mails and play games.I feel like I cannot stay away from the Internet.I don't just have work on internet, but I do have work that are not related to internet.I have to complete my assignments and study. Some people are too addicted to the internet, that they sit countless hours in front of it,which is unhealthy. For those whose works are just on the internet they just take a walk, after sitting for one hour, this I think will maintain your health.Playing games is also good aside from internet, but it involves sitting, and we are too busy in our games, that we don't want to move away.Game is indeed a good way to spend time, but why does not give you want you should acquire and that is knowledge.Sometimes, when you check your mail, you get informative websites which is important, because what you have to acquire is knowledge.I think that it does destroy, our social, family, friendship, and business life, because we don't give them time,we only give internet too much time than them.We should make a balance between them.

Thanks for reading my message!
