Hi there,

I am wondering what the difference is between "I was told" (which is the simple past??) and "I am told" (a combination of the present and the past).

Thanks,

Pete

I am told: is a passive in the simple present.
I was told: is a passive, but in the past simple.

Hi Dutch Guy
Welcome to this forum.

I am told= present simple passive tense = somebody tells me (now)
Who tells you...? Richard tells me....(present simple active tense)
I was told= past simple passive tense = somebody told me (in the past)
Who told you...? Richard told me...(past simple active tense)

I did my best, I hope you'll get it. If not, Let's see what are other members and teachers' viewpoints on this.
Best of luck.
