Can a native speaker, please, look at this sentence and tell me whether or not it makes sense? Also, Im not sure about some of the collocations (eg. international talks). Shouldnt the prepositional phrase "in the past couple decades" be preceded by, for instance, "that took place"?

It is no exaggeration to say that it will be one of the most important international talks in the past couple decades that will, to a great extent, affect not only our own lives, but also lives of our children and grandchildren.

Thank you!

My humble tips:
- "Talks" sounds a bit less formal than the rest of your sentence, more like a newspaper headline; perhaps you could substitute "conference" or "summit" for it.
- The same applies to "couple": perhaps "past few decades" is more appropriate; or you could leave it out entirely, to emphasise the fact that this conference is quite important.
- You might want to add the article to "lives": "the lives".
- The "that" clause appears to be non-defining: better use "which" and add a comma after "decades".
