Sitting here on this dirty bus,
first time I've realised.
There wasn't any value,
To the things I once had prized.

For anyone can have them,
They only have to try.
But heed my words of wisdom.
They're all "pie in the sky."

The doors and wheels are shiny,
The inside smells nice too.
But they'll take every penny,
They'll make a slave of you.

The house is large and roomy,
The garden like a park.
With lamps and swans and roses,
So lovely in the dark.

But all too soon you realise,
It costs more than it's worth.
No way to turn,no-one to help,
The loneliest place on Earth.

So listen to what I'm telling you,
Be happy in your jeans.
Forget the suits and flashy cars,
Live within your means.

For if you don't you'll rue it,
It'll all go to the bank.
Smile at the world, live modestly.
It's me you'll have to thank.

Hey Kitostad,

I'm Joseph of the Philippines. I really like this poem because of the message it tries to convey to the reader. For me it meant happiness is not material. You could be the happiest person if you know how to be happy with what you have. Contentment and Satisfaction of what you have are the key. Material happiness is very temporary but having quality time with your loved ones will always remain alive in our hearts even if the people you're with during those moments are gone.

Thanks!

Joseph

Hello Joseph. Thanks for your very nice comments. That is a terrific picture you are showing us .

I found out the hard way that having lots of money doesn't necessarily make anyone happy. Quite the reverse, but you sure find your true friends when you have none.

Kitos.

Indeed true! Happiness is priceless, there's a lot ways to be happy but people tend to ignore these chances because they always associate happiness with money.

When you are wealthy you'll have many friends but when you have none you'll be left with few true friends.
