sir,
i would like to know the meaning of"to be supposed to do or be"when i say,"you were supposed to call me when you got there".is it like i say either,"you had to call me when you got there"or"i thouht you would call me when you got there"?
looking forward to your kind help.

Hi Coolrus,

''Supposed to' suggests that is the right thing to do/that is what is expected. In your sentence:

Quote:
you were supposed to call me when you got there


this means 'that is what you should have done because that's what we had arranged in advance'.

Another example:

You are supposed to park your car as near as possible to the side of the pavement.
