How are you? - I'm good?

Hi, I'm just watching an interview with Catherine Zeta-Jones and the host asked her How are you? and she answered I'm good. We have been taught that the correct reply would be I'm very well. So I guess I'm good must be correct English, otherwise why would Catherine Zeta-Jones say it on TV?

Hi Nicole,

Yes, the lovely Catherine Zeta Jones is using the popular and current response: I'm good. You are quite right also. The conventional response for people of my generation is: I'm fine/I'm very well. I can only imagine that this new expression comes about as a contraction of : I feel good. But then language is changing all the time and if you want to be contemporary and modern, you say: I'm good.
