Intransitive verbs of complete predication to transitive verbs. #1 (permalink) Sun Dec 13, 2009 21:31 pm   Intransitive verbs of complete predication to transitive verbs.

Hi,

I think all 'intransitive verbs of complete predication' can be changed to 'transitive verbs' by using the word 'make'.

For example:
1) The boy runs----------->make the boy run.
2) The child smiles--------->make the child smile.
3) The woman laughs------>make the woman laugh.
4) The baby sleeps-------->make the baby sleep.

Am I correct?

Thanks

David, I am not entirely sure about this terminology, but I think you are right. You can make any normal verb causative by using make + object + infinitive. There are exceptions, such as auxiliary verbs. Your examples are all correct.
