My question is: we generally say "He called me up few minutes back."

But How to tell someone the same thing in past, Please read my example because I've a problem in this:

I was alone at home and we live at 1st Floor. My mum went somewhere and my Dad called up and asked for the mum (He wanted to talk to her, actually he called up for her not for me) and I said she is not at home. When my Mum got home I told her in this way(Using narration):

Quote:
Mum! Dad called up and He was looking for you and I told him that you went downstair

I said: Dad called up instead Dad called you up

Is it right ?

and also please check is everything correct grammatically whatever I wrote!

These are right:

Dad called.
Dad called you (up).

'Up' sounds odd to me without the object.
