Hi Uli, Torsten.

Thank you for the information.

Uli,

You suggested using the Internet and English-test.net which is a great idea. Do the students have access to computers in the classroom or on-site?

Torsten,

Should I purchase a copy of the course book? Also, which dates would you like me to teach? I see Oliver is keen to go as well and you may have other teachers lined-up, too. For now, I'm flexible and available through April. Also, I have made a reservation at the Appart Zentral Nordhausen through the 17th of February (minus the weekend of Feb 5th). If another teacher goes during this time, they could easily take that reservation. It's 28 euros per night,or 175 per week.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards,

Sheila

Quite new as I am
I really don't know if I should join the posts about this subject already. But I am hoping to get a chance to teach, too, and so I would say, if there's no certain book necessary, it doesn't matter. Especially for me. I have read the topics the course is about, and I would always "go from near to further".
That means, people should first learn to say who they are, where they are living and so on, some important facts of their identity, and then later talk about their work, skills, hobbies, wishes, visions, views of life and so an. Then at last you only need to add some vocabulary of economy and business.
How to teach all these things? The methods depend on the kind of people who want to learn, I would say, and without some creativity we could not carry it out. The bigger the group the more difficult the possibilites of a good learning for each one of them. It's a challenge, all the time.

Best regards,
Andreas

Hello everyone,

Thank you all so much for all your responses, it's great to see you have such an interest in working with us. Since this particular Nordhausen job is of such short notice it's probably best if Brian Trenton from Ireland takes it. Brian has family in Nordhausen so accommodation and food is free for him. Yes, with any government (Arbeitsagentur) funded we get paid for the training itself only. They never cover any additional costs for accommodation or travel because they want to employ local trainers.

As for access to the Internet, yes every group member has got a laptop which they can use any time to look up words or other information. Today I introduced them to english-test.net and everyone tried out some of the materials. I explained the main elements: the fee email English course, the tests, especially the TOEIC listening comprehension ones, the progress report and of course, the forum.

The trainer also has a copy of Business Basics, New Edition along with a copy of both audio CD's and other audio materials. In addition, the trainer has a laptop and active speakers as well as a projector which you can get from the staff.

So far we have covered the first two chapters of Business Basics, please review all the grammar and vocabulary items and make sure the three beginners can go slower. I also showed the beginners www.ego4u.de which has lots of explanations in German to make them feel more comfortable.

Oh, there is something else: In addtion to the 8 units from 7:30 am to 3pm there is a new course every Monday and Wednesday from 5 pm until 7:15 pm. The course starts this Monday and so far there are 5 people. You can use the same book, the same room and equipment with them.

For those of you who won't be doing the Nordhausen job right now, please take a look at the other jobs we have (Havelberg, Moenchengladbach, etc) since we really want to work with you and new jobs come up constantly.

More soon,
Many thanks
Torsten

Hello Wolfgang,
Thank you very much indeed for inviting me to this forum and the English test website. I have already done a few tests and it is really educating and entertaining at the same time. I'm sure I will spend a lot more time on these websites. And I have a hunch Dorte might be here soon, too, as she was breathing down my neck all the while I surfed here...
I'm looking forward to reading many more of your posts.

Take care

Marco

Hello Michael, Wolfgang and the entire Nordhausen crew! Thank you very much for your great work, I can see that you had a splendid day with lots of new ideas, expressions and topics. Now that Brian has arrived you can use the opportunity to listen to an authentic Irish accent and to learn a lot about Ireland and Irish culture.

Please remember to ask such questions as 'How do you spell this' to practice the alphabet and 'What does it mean' to learn new vocabulary. Also, please continue working with the Business Basics book and completing the tests on our site. I'm here in Havelberg with 6 officers of the German Federal Army. Most of them have served in Afghanistan, the Kosovo and Lebanon where they had to use their English to communicate with local people and other NATO forces. One of them is a Russian born German who grew up almost bilingually (Russian and German) and he also speaks very good English.

They group is going to take the TOEIC test next Friday so we need to use every minute to achieve the best results. Talk to you soon. Torsten

PS: Wolfgang, you were absolutely right. Havelberg is a beautiful place. From our window I have a great view onto the river Havel and we can see the river port.

Hello Torsten,
thank you very much for your mail. I'm very pleased, that you can enjoy the beautiful view onto the Havel river and I think Havelberg is a wonderful small town. I visited Havelberg in summertime four yours years ago. I don't know Havelberg in the winter months, when the houses and the whole countryside is snow-covered. I hope you have enough time to visit the Havelberg cathedral. Certainly you can't compare this small cathedral with the others ones in Colonia, Aachen and Speyer for example. But it was very important in the history of this region and was the main church of the Havelberg biocese. If you have more time please visit Bad Wilsnack, a small town near Havelberg (20 ... 25 km ??). In Bad Wilsnack there is a well-known church too. In medieval times it was a destination, where pilgrims have adored a relic, therefore nowadays the church is named "Wunderblutkirche". In Bad Wilsnack you can find the headquarters of the KMG-group (in german: Krankenhaus-Management-Gruppe). You can find more information in the website www.kmg-kliniken.ag Maybe this company could become a new customer of english-test ? .... ;-)

So, that's all for today. I have to prepare and execute some tasks for my wife .... :-((
Please excuse my English, but I extremly seldom write mails or letters in English ...
Best regards
Wolfgang

P.S. Has Marco already written how and where he did learn English and what is his profession?

Hi Wolfgang, what kind of errands did you run for your wife yesterday? Thanks a lot for the information on the Krankenhaus Management Group -- yes, they might start using english-test.net soon. By the way, the Havelberg cathedral is amazing, small but absolutely unique.

As for Marco, I take it he is not the Marco who is in our group? So, now we have two Marcos here on the forum? I look forward to your new report.

Best regards,
Torsten
